About AFE

A Welcome from the Chairman

Alex M. Keller, CPE Facilities Engineering is a complex field requiring mastery of a wide array of professional disciplines, codes, standards, etc. Maintaining a strong working knowledge of all facility-related "best practices" is a difficult task - made even more challenging by constant improvements in technology and changes in regulations.

On any given day the Facility Professional might need to be an engineer, a manager, a technician, a diplomat, a cost controller, a leader, a motivator or a trainer. Everything pertaining to providing and maintaining an effective and safe workplace ultimately becomes the responsibility of the Facility Professional.

The Association for Facilities Engineering was established over 50 years ago to help facilities professionals keep up with the daily demands of their jobs and to keep abreast of growth and changes in their field. AFE provides its members many types of support, including the opportunity to network with thousands of like-minded professionals, training and certification, continuing education seminars, and the opportunity to participate in local chapter activities. AFE recognizes that all workplaces share common facility engineering, maintenance and management functions - this is the common bond among AFE members. At the same time, different industry segments have unique needs - and AFE's Council organizations allow members to interact with very specialized individuals in related fields.

AFE's web site provides its members with membership support such as updating personnel information and membership renewal, but also provides access to all of AFE's training and certification programs, many of which are free to members. The web site also provides direct access to news of local chapter activities. In a more traditional manner, AFE's Facilities Engineering Journal - free to members - is a world-class source of up-to-date technical information related to facilities engineering.

With AFE, you are not alone! We welcome you to peruse our web site and encourage you to become a member so that you can begin to enjoy the benefits of AFE as soon as possible.
